Prenatal
Traditional Midwife Electah provides prenatal care to expectant Mamas. Care focuses on supporting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the pregnant Mama throughout her pregnancy journey. During the initial consultation, the midwife will review the Mama's medical history and conduct relevant physical examinations. This helps establish a baseline for the pregnancy and identify any potential risk factors. Regular prenatal appointments are scheduled to monitor the overall health of Mama and the development of the baby. These visits include checking blood pressure, measuring the abdomen, listening to the baby's heartbeat, and discussing any concerns or questions and providing education and counseling to expectant Mamas. In addition, she offers guidance on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and childbirth preparation and discussing various options for labor and delivery, including natural birth, water birth, and hospital transport plans. We also focus on the emotional aspects of pregnancy and provide support for Mama’s mental well-being, offering a compassionate and nurturing environment, addressing any emotional concerns or anxieties, and facilitating discussions about postpartum and newborn care. We work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, such as obstetricians or perinatologists, to ensure comprehensive care for Mamas with high-risk pregnancies or complications, in case care needs to be transferred and refer clients to other specialists if necessary. We assist in creating personalized birth plans that reflect Mama's preferences and desires, discussing discomfort measures and remedies, labor positions, and the involvement of partners or support persons during birth. A Postpartum Care plan is created to continue providing care after birth for up to 6 weeks, offering support with breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery and therapy, monitoring the Mama's physical & emotional healing and addressing any concerns that may arise.
Postpartum
GEMs postpartum midwifery care provides support to women after giving birth. It is designed to ensure the well-being and recovery of both the Mama and baby during the postpartum period, up to 6 weeks postpartum. Here are some key aspects of postpartum midwifery care we focus on. Physical recovery, our midwife provides guidance and support to help women recover from the physical changes experienced during pregnancy and childbirth. This includes monitoring the healing of any incisions or tears, assessing breastfeeding and lactation, assisting with latching techniques, addressing any concerns, providing recommendations for pain management and postpartum exercises and therapy. Emotional support because the postpartum period can be emotionally challenging for many women due to hormonal fluctuations and adjustment to their new roles as Mamas. Our midwife offers emotional support, reassurance, and education about the baby blues, postpartum depression, and the importance of self-care and skin to skin.
Home Birth
Our midwife provides Home Birth care to pregnant women who choose to give birth in the comfort of their own homes and prefer to avoid a hospital setting. The Home Birth approach to childbirth emphasizes a more natural and personalized experience for women who would like to have more control over how they labor and give birth. Our Home Birth care is comprehensive and monitors the health of both Mama and baby ensuring their safety and well-being, as well as providing continuous guidance and support throughout the laboring and birth process. Our midwife is trained to handle any complications that may arise during Home Births and carries the necessary equipment and supplies to handle emergencies as well as stabilization should the need for transport arise. Postnatally, she continues to provide care to both Mama and baby, checking for any potential health issues, checking vitals and offering guidance on breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
Water Birth, the practice of giving birth in water, is supported by our midwife. It is known to provide a more soothing and less painful birthing experience for some women. Water Birth has several potential benefits, including pain relief, relaxation, and a greater sense of control for the birthing Mama. The warm water can help to relax muscles and increase buoyancy, which may reduce discomfort during labor and encourage a smoother delivery. They are considered safe for low-risk pregnancies when appropriate precautions are taken. Our midwife will monitor the progress of labor, ensure the baby's safety, and be prepared for the baby to be born in water making for an easier transition for babies going from amniotic fluid to warm water.

VBAC
Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is a delivery option for women who have previously had a cesarean section but would like to experience a vaginal birth for their subsequent pregnancies. Midwifery care can play a crucial role in supporting women during their VBAC journey. Our midwife fully supports VBACs and can provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, and postpartum support. She can help you understand the risks and benefits of VBAC, provide evidence-based information, and assist you in making informed decisions about your birth plan and if VBAC is the safest option for you. In the prenatal period, our midwife assesses your medical history and previous cesarean scar, length of time between births and other factors to determine if you are a good candidate for a vaginal birth. She will closely monitor your pregnancy, provide prenatal care, discuss any concerns, and educate you about VBAC and the healing process. During labor our midwife will be by your side, providing emotional support, pain management techniques, and guidance throughout the labor and birthing process.
